Gani Mammadov's house
Gani Mammadov's house
Gani Mammadov owned many ships in the Caspian Sea. Mainly engaged in cotton trade, he also had a large share in the transportation of goods between Central Asia, Russia and Iran. After the April occupation, he left Baku and migrated to Russia and then to Poland.
The residential house built by Gani Mammadov in 1908 at 45 A. Zeynalli Street is rich in architectural elements in its local style, dominated by national volumetric and spatial elements. The first floor of the three-story building was intended for a shop with large windows, the facade walls were built of proportionally decorated stones, and the upper two floors were built of hewn limestone. The window frames, rich in strongly profiled and carved elements on decorative stone, embody the entire building with the plastic gamma elements of the building. The main compositional element of the facade - a two-story glass-windowed balcony - "shushaband", its completion with a ribbed dome gives the building a special beauty. The architectural form of the patterns with carved elements on wood along the shushaband balcony, the epigraphic inscription in Arabic alphabet along the cornice of the balcony - attracts attention as a unique stylistic direction of Baku architecture. Located among ancient architectural buildings along A. Zeynalli Street, this residential building stands out for its magnificent interior, especially the stained glass windows and the modern style of the window frames.
