Near the Shamakhi gates, on the left side of the square, is the 18th century architectural monument - the Residence of the Baku khans.

After the death of Nadir Shah in 1747, the empire collapsed and a number of khanates and sultanates emerged in the lands of Azerbaijan. One of them was the Baku Khanate. This house was the residence of the Baku Khans, who ruled in Baku from 1747 to 1806, that is, after the occupation of the Baku Khanate by Tsarist Russia. The residence of the Baku Khans was a complex that included three residential houses belonging to the khan and his relatives. Its entrance door is in the form of a pointed arch and there is an inscription on it indicating the date of construction of the house. It is said that the walls of the house of the Baku Khans were decorated with paintings painted by skilled artists with oil paint and later with gold leaf. Later, by order of the Russian general Bulgakov, these paintings were removed from the walls and taken to an unknown destination. Unfortunately, their further fate is unknown to us. Currently, the residence of the Baku Khans has been restored.
