A scientific-practical conference titled “The State of the Shirvanshahs: A New Source on a Millennial History” and the presentation of the Azerbaijani translation of the 15th-century Azerbaijani poet Badr Shirvani’s work Divan were held at the Shirvanshahs’ Palace Complex.
The event was opened by Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve. The leadership of the administration, scholars, researchers, and other official guests took part in the conference.
The discussions at the conference focused on the statehood traditions of the Shirvanshahs’ period, the culture of political governance, palace-society relations, and the organization of economic and legal structures. Historical documents and newly compiled research materials were presented. Scholars also spoke about the literary and historical significance of translating Badr Shirvani’s poetic heritage into the Azerbaijani language, emphasizing both the artistic and academic value of the work.
During the ceremony, the winner of a mugham competition recited two couplets from the Divan.
Badr Shirvani (1387–1450) made an important contribution not only to classical Azerbaijani poetry but also to the development of the Azerbaijani literary language. His Divan is rich with valuable information on the language, history, socio-economic, and political life of the first half of the 15th century, and serves as a primary source.
The scholarly translation of Divan into Azerbaijani was published with the support of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve. The manuscript of the work is currently preserved at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the end of the event, copies of the book were presented to the participants, and the ceremony concluded with classical instrumental music.
