The Next International Carpet Festival to Be Held in Icherisheher
24.04.2026
From May 1–3, Icherisheher, the historic heart of Baku, will once again host a major cultural event – the International Carpet Festival.
Organized by the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration and Azerkhalcha OJSC, with the support of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and AZPROMO, the festival aims to promote Azerbaijani carpet art globally and further highlight Icherisheher’s unique historical environment on the international tourism stage.
The festival will kick off on May 1 with the International Carpet Forum at the Baku Business Center. Dedicated to the theme “Carpet Industry: Value Creation, Branding, and Integration into the Global Market. From Cultural Heritage to a Competitive Global Product,” the forum will bring together leading experts, designers, manufacturers, researchers, and exporters to discuss key issues related to promoting this cultural heritage internationally.
In the following days, the festival will fully immerse into the historic atmosphere of Icherisheher. Double Gates Square will serve as the central hub, featuring national pavilions from 11 countries and концерт programs. At the same time, exhibition-sales fairs along Khanlar Park and Vahid Garden will offer residents and tourists the chance to experience unique works of art up close. The Multani Caravanserai and Bukhara Caravanserai will host exclusive exhibitions and product presentations.
Visitors will be able to watch the carpet-making process live at Quadrangular Castle, explore special wedding-themed zones such as “Lukra” on Boyuk Gala Street and “Ilme ve Irs” at Shirvanshahs Square. Walking through the “Carpet Tunnel” on Asaf Zeynalli Street and visiting the Shusha stand will offer a deeper connection to history, while a dedicated children’s zone in Khan Garden will combine art and entertainment.
The program will also feature exhibitions by renowned local artists as well as creatives from France, Kazakhstan, and Albania. Special highlights include the “Natavan Fashion Show” at Maiden Tower Square, the “Nakhish” performance at the House of Photography Baku, and film screenings at Murad Gate Square.
The inclusive project “My Grandmother’s Carpet” will once again demonstrate the unifying power of art.
Everyone is invited to join this celebration from May 1–3 in the ancient streets of Icherisheher and experience the magical world of history woven into every carpet.
