The International Carpet Forum Concludes Successfully

The International Carpet Forum, held within the framework of the International Carpet Festival organized in our capital from May 1–3, has successfully concluded its work. Dedicated to the theme “Carpet Industry: Value Creation, Branding, and Integration into the Global Market. From Cultural Heritage to a Competitive Global Product,” the forum began on May 1 at the Baku Business Center. This professional platform created a unique opportunity to discuss the current challenges and future prospects of the carpet industry together with experts from around the world.

Organized by “Azerkhalcha” OJSC and the Administration of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve, with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO, the main goal of the festival is to promote Azerbaijani carpets on the global stage and to pass this ancient art on to future generations in a more modern form by benefiting from the rich experience of international carpet makers.

During the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Board of “Azerkhalcha” OJSC Emin Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Rufat Mahmud, and Deputy Minister of Culture Saadat Yusifova emphasized that carpet weaving is not only a national cultural heritage but also a creative industry with significant economic potential. It was highlighted that such international festivals and forums play an invaluable role in promoting Azerbaijan as a unique cultural brand worldwide, while also directly contributing to the development of the tourism sector. These platforms facilitate access to global markets for local producers and encourage the sector’s development in line with modern requirements.

Within the forum, experts from countries such as Morocco, Nepal, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan exchanged views on the integration of handicrafts into the global economic system, further enhancing the international significance of the event.

Although the professional discussions have concluded, the excitement of the festival will continue in the historic streets of Icherisheher starting tomorrow. On May 2 and 3, the most vibrant part of the program will take place within the territory of the historical reserve. The program will include exclusive carpet exhibitions, masterclasses demonstrating ancient weaving techniques, and various cultural events aimed at presenting the rich heritage of Icherisheher to a wide audience.

These activities, held in one of Baku’s most iconic locations, will attract both local residents and international tourists, further increasing the city’s global tourism appeal. Thus, the unique architectural atmosphere of Icherisheher will merge with the enchanting world of carpet art, once again demonstrating the strategic position of our capital on the global tourism map.
