“The Oil Boom Smiles at Everyone” play
The play “The Oil Boom” will be staged at the Youth Theatre — a comic-genre production based on the play by Maksud Ibrahimbekov.
Duration: 70 minutes
Language: Azerbaijani
Director: Konstantin Soldatov
Staged in a comic style, the performance takes the audience back to early 20th-century Baku — to the era of the oil boom, aristocratic gatherings, romantic intrigues, and the approaching revolution.
The stage form combines theatrical storytelling with the aesthetics of a graphic novel: freeze frames, constantly shifting dynamic scenes, video and projection visuals, powerful sound effects, speech bubbles displaying the characters’ lines, and sequences constructed in real time. Through the lens of comic language, the story of a young oilman unfolds — torn between wealth and ideals, his wife and his lover, debt and freedom. It is a satirical chronicle reflecting the fracture of an era — both the Baku of the past and our present day.
Admission is by invitation only.
